Jesus is anonymous in the midst of the crowd gathered on the banks of the Jordan River by John. Jesus is among us. The Gospel says nothing about him; it only describes how the sky opens and the Spirit descends like a dove.

Jesus' genealogy is composed of a long list of names. The Son brings the Good News into the lengthy history of a people, and those names are the sum of the generations.

After contemplating the Son, today our gaze and our hearts are turned to Mary, Mother of Jesus God. A child and its mother are the protagonists of each birth; this is even truer in this unique and extraordinary birth: a virgin gives birth to the Son of God and becomes his Mother.
