This was an occasion to discuss new models of evangelization related to the family. "Forming new families for a new evangelization" was the theme of the XVI Meeting for diocesan catechists and leaders, organized by the Diocese of Raleigh (North Carolina), in the town’s parish, St. Raphael, on September 6th.
After the meeting’s opening and the Eucharistic celebration, presided by the Bishop of Raleigh, H.E. Msgr. Michael F. Burbidge, the day of study immediately entered into the heart of the matter, by presenting to over 600 participants engaged in parish ministries, new ideas and ways for effectively training families so that they may bear courageous witness to the Gospel.
At this meeting, the Under-Secretary of the Pontifical Council for the Family, Msgr. Carlos Simón Vázquez, made an important contribution. In his intervention—enlivened by a commentary on the figure of the Virgin of Guadalupe—, he highlighted the crucial role that the family plays in bringing a genuine and credible message of the Gospel to the world.
On the same day, the Dicastery for the Family again took the floor with a presentation—given by Father William G. Donovan—of the coming World Meeting of Families that will be held next year in Philadelphia.
