Card. Raymundo Damasceno Assis, President of the CNBB, opens the discussion of the Brazilian dioceses
"I would be pleased if you promoted a broad consultation with the People of God in your dioceses to further the success of the synodal process, which will conclude with the second and final stage of the Synod on the Family, in October. I take this opportunity to ask your dioceses to pray for the family and the next Synodal Assembly." Cardinal Raymundo Damasceno Assis, Archbishop of Aparecida and President of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB), addressed these words to Brazil’s Bishops in a recent letter.
The initiative of the President of CNBB is motivated by the call of the Secretary General of the Synod, Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, to carry out "a broad consultation on the family in accordance with the orientation and the spirit of the synodal process."
The CNBB will receive contributions and redact a summary of the material collected in the individual churches. Later, this documentation will be sent to the General Secretariat of the Synod, which has the responsibility of preparing the working text for the 14th Ordinary General Assembly on the theme "The vocation and the mission of the family in the Church and in the contemporary world."
