On 8 January, the Constitutional Court of Peru declared unconstitutional the first article of Law No. 28704 on the crime of sexual violation against teenagers between 14 and 18 years of age. This judgment in fact recognizes the freedom of adolescents, from age 14, to decide with whom to have sexual relations, including adults. Unconsented sexual relations shall still constitute a crime. The bishop responsible for the pastoral care for families in this country, SE Archbishop Jose Antonio Eguren Anselmi, has published a statement.
