A small volume with the most important passages of Vatican II on the family now at the bookstore
For the 50th year since the opening of the Second Vatican Council, the Pontifical Council for the Family has put together a collection of the most significant texts on the family that were produced during that memorable event. Cited passages, in particular, come from the documents Gaudium et Spes (Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World), Apostolicam Actuositatem (Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity), Lumen Gentium (Dogmatic Constitution of the Church), and Gravissimus Educationis (Declaration on Christian Education).
The various passages are divided into 6 broad themes (the design of God, the relationship with the world today, sanctity, love, children, education) and are presented with testimonies of actual families as a reflection and commentary upon the teachings of the Council. The volume, on sale for 5 euro, is 56 pages and edited by Libreria Editrice Vaticana. It is enriched by historical photos from the Council itself and of families from the time of the council and today. It is hoped that the invitation to reread these texts is a little contribution toward preparing for the upcoming Synod of the Family.
