A Benedictine Sanctuary in Portugal will be united in spirit with the Day of September 28th
To support the initiative that will take place on September 28th, in St. Peter‘s Square, "The Blessing of Long Life", the parish community and the pilgrims of the Portuguese shrine of St. Benedict of the Open Door, at the parish of Rio Caldo, in Terras de Bouro, will also unite in prayer.
At 10:30 am, when Pope Francis Pope will celebrate Mass in Rome, the faithful gathered in the sanctuary will also be celebrating Holy Mass in full spiritual communion with the assembly in St. Peter’s Square. The pilgrims will be able to enter the Portuguese Church from 9:30 on, and then they will recite together the prayer of welcome and begin to enter into communion with the Meeting in Rome that has been organized by the PCF. The sanctuary of St. Benedict of the Open Door was founded in 1640, with the construction of a small chapel. The present building dates back to the end of the 19th century and has received its name from the particular fact that its doors are always open to all travelers. Each year it receives more than 2,500,000 pilgrims from all over the world.
