To mark the Year of Faith, the Bishops of Santo Domingo published a pastoral letter on the feast of the national patron, Our Lady of Altagracia. In the pastoral letter “Stand firm in the Faith,” they invite families to renew their faith by reciting the Creed as a family and “to celebrate and proclaim our faith at all times.” They appeal to “value, appreciate and respect” to women as “wives, daughters, sisters, mothers, aunts, cousins, grandmothers,” while recognizing that they are “workers, fighters, entrepreneurs and committed to the values.” Likewise, they invite the faithful to “turn their eyes toward God who gives us the gift of faith, a faith that drives us to search for and to live out attitudes that strengthen family life, giving strength to the family, society’s base and the domestic church.”
