The Family as Resource of Latin America
Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia met with CELAM’s President, Msgr. Carlos Aguiar Reta

On Monday, May 6th, the President of the Pontifical Council for the Family, Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia, met with the President of the Latin American Episcopal Council (CELAM), Msgr. Carlos Aguiar Reta, Archbishop of Tlalnepantla, Mexico. On the occasion of this visit to our Dicastery, the terms of collaboration between the organization for communion and collegiality of Latin America’s Bishops and the Pontifical Council for the Family were confirmed.

Particular emphasis was put on the common effort to continue showing that the family is society’s main resource, for its promotion and increased support, while avoiding the dispersal of energy in the recognition of other family-like groups that are not generative. In this task, the importance of encouraging the work of the Christian laity and of family associations was noted. Alongside this kind of civil commitment, projects currently being carried out in the context of the continental mission for the evangelization of the family were discussed, and a variety of areas for collaboration between the Dicastery and CELAM were identified.
