This is how Pope Francis described himself in a lengthy interview that has gone around the world in a few hours, extending this look of mercy to humanity’s many wounds, to the point of defining the Church as «a field hospital». Pope Francis’ openings, which seem so extraordinary, are in reality to be included in the secular tradition of Christian mercy, which is directly rooted in Jesus and his Gospel.
