Over 7,000 miles separate St. John's Diocese, in Newfoundland, from Vancouver, British Columbia. That great distance is the biggest challenge for Canada in the preparation for the World Meeting of Families, because "it makes it difficult for representatives from the various dioceses to meet, although—explain Guylaine Morin and André Belzile, spouses and Canadian members of the Pontifical Council for the Family—we see that meetings, which are often informal, allow us to better promote the initiative together with the Canadian Bishops, who are already aware that the meeting will be an ideal opportunity to better understand the importance of the evangelization of families." In a context of spreading secularism, "families are less interested in religious gatherings. So the Bishops and parish teams—said the couple—have an essential role in giving importance to the conferences of theology and family ministry, so that they may be allowed to better interact with couples and families." To prepare for the meeting, a committee of volunteers has proposed formation tools and information in English and French, and all efforts are designed to also give it as much visibility as possible on the web and on social networks like Facebook. "Then, each Canadian diocese will work independently to inform and encourage the faithful to come to Philadelphia. We expect a very numerous delegation," concludes the couple.
