We know the State of Vatican… Did you know that Vatican is the name of the geographical location where it was built? Looking at old maps of Rome, we can see that the Vatican was the marshy area, close to the right bank of the Tiber River. In fact, it was not a State like it is today; and it was not a beautiful zone. History tells us that the land was consolidated, and so the Vatican began to become as we know it today. The Vatican was founded on 11 February 1929 with "The Lateran Agreements." This act made the Vatican into an independent State within the Italian State: the smallest State in the world! | |
Who is the Head of State? The State of Vatican is very special. Do you know what kind of government it has and how it is organized inside? It is an absolute elective monarchy. You may wonder what that means. It means that the Pope is the absolute Head of State, elected by the Cardinals who help him then in the government of the Church. |
