Flags, stamps and coins   versione testuale
What flag does the State of Vatican have?
Did you know that up to 8 June 1929, the flag of the Vatican State was yellow and red?
The current flag is instead made up of two vertical bands: one yellow (below) and one white; the latter bears two crossed keys (one gold and one silver) that represent those that Jesus left to Saint Peter, topped by the tiara (the ancient crown of the Pope).
What is the flag of your country like? Do you know the meaning of its symbols?
What currency and stamps are used?
Like every State, Vatican City too has its own currency and stamps. Do you know what the Vatican's currency is?
Thanks to the agreements, the State of Vatican uses the same currency as the European Union: the Euro.
The stamps, although they are little used today in some countries because almost no one writes letters anymore, their history is very interesting, especially for those who collect them!
In fact, through the stamps, we can reconstruct the whole story, or almost, of this small important State.
