The Pope recalled some evangelical expressions related to family affections, that " are transformed through the experience of faith and God's love, 'filled' with a greater significance, and so become capable of going beyond themselves, to create wider fatherhood and motherhood, welcoming as brothers and sisters even those who are on the edge of all bonds."

"The wisdom of affections, which cannot be bought or sold,—said the Pope—is the greatest quality of the family's genius. Precisely in the family, we learn to grow in that atmosphere of wisdom of affections. Their 'grammar' is learned there; otherwise, it is very difficult to learn. Now, this is the language through which God makes himself understood by all." Therefore, "the circulation of a family style in human relations is a blessing for the peoples" and "brings hope to the earth. When family affections let themselves be converted by the testimony of the Gospel, they become capable of unimaginable things."

"The family that answers Jesus' call—explained Pope Francis—gives the direction of the world back to the pact of men and women with God." Today the family's pact with God is called "to combat the communal desertification of the modern city. Our cities have become deserts because of the absence of love, the lack of smiles. There is a lot of entertainment, so many things to waste time and make people laugh, but love is missing. The smile of a family is able to overcome the desertification of our cities. And that is family's victory. No engineering and no economic policy can replace this contribution of families." Therefore, he concluded, "we have to get out of the towers and vaults of the elite, and frequent once again the houses and open spaces of the multitudes, open to the love of family."
