Kneel down before Families
The Filipino Bishops' Pastoral Letter in view of the Jubilee of Mercy and the Year dedicated to the family
"Let us kneel down before poor families, seeking mercy for our sins, but also in a gesture of compassion toward people who have been hurt as we have by sin." The exhortation to go down on one’s knees aims at an interior renewal, a virtue of humility and mercy which the present generation has compromised with the "throw away consumerist culture." We read this in the Pastoral Letter that the Filipino Bishops have addressed to the faithful in view of the Jubilee of Mercy and the International Eucharistic Congress, which will be held next January in Cebu, in the context of the Year dedicated to the family and the Eucharist, organized by the local Church for 2016. "Kneeling humbly—explains Archbishop Socrates Villegas, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP)— reminds us that we have fallen and in our fallen yet forgiven condition, we must show mercy to one another." The letter also expressed concern about the situation of the family in the Philippines, which has led to the invitation "Let us kneel again at home for family prayer and for feet washing," while being open to the miracles of love for the good of all families, because "the family that prays together stays together. The family that kneels together will be refreshed and renewed together."
