In the US, from 24 to 30 July, a Week will be dedicated to celebrating God's vision of human sexuality
"Love, Mercy, Life. Open the Heart of Marriage" is the theme of the Awareness Week on sexuality, life and the family, organized by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops from 24 to 30 July. These dates have not been chosen randomly: in fact, says the website of the US Bishops, they "highlight two anniversaries: the publication of the Encyclical 'Humanae Vitae', signed by Paul VI on 25 July 1968, which focused on the Church's teachings about human sexuality, conjugal love and responsible parenthood." The second date is marked by the "the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Virgen Mary, on July 26."
Each diocese is responsible for planning the Week in its own particular way; but, following the suggestions offered by the US Bishops' Conference, all will celebrate a Mass during which they will pray for the families, engaged couples, and married couples who cannot have children, as well as for health workers; they will also recite the Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary, which recall the Annunciation of Mary and Jesus' birth, and organize spiritual retreats and conferences of experts to deepen the subject of natural family planning from a spiritual point of view and in scientific perspective.
