“Preparations for and observance of the twentieth Anniversary of the International Year of the Family” is one of the five draft resolutions to be adopted at the end of the 51st Session of Commission for Social Development of the Economical and Social Counsil at United Nations (form 6 to 15 February 2013)− on the priority theme “Promoting empowerment of people in achieving poverty eradication, social integration and full employment and decent work for all”.
The scope of the draft resolution is to «increase cooperation at all levels on family issues and for undertaking concerted actions to strengthen family-centred policies and programmes as part of an integrated comprehensive approach to development ».
On recognizing that «the family, as the natural and fundamental group unit of society, has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of children and that children, for the full and harmonious development of their personality, should grow up in a family environment and in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding», the document receives the presented motion by msgr. Francis Chullikatt the Holy See Delegate at Onu as a speaker at the Session. Mons. Chullikatt inter alia said: «The family is the miliarstone and backbone of intergenerational solidarity and social cohesion». Then, «the family plays a vital role in all the areas of social development».
Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia, the President of The Pontifician Counsil for Family, in a press conference presented a script in preparations to the event at United Nations, where he participated in institutional meetings and dialogues.
