The Family at the Conclave/4   versione testuale
Cardinal Odilo P. Scherer, Archbishop of São Paulo and Member of the Presidency of the Pontifical Council for the Family

On the occasion of the most recent Plenary of our Council, among other things Cardinal Odilo P. Scherer said: «The Church, which is the family of God's children, must often face great difficulties and live moments of anguish; this is why She confidently turns to the Heavenly Father, with the certainty of being heard and that She can count on his love. The Lord Jesus, that He loved Her “to the end,” He promised to always be with Her».

«God the Father wanted the human family and, after having created man and woman, He was delighted because the work of his love had turned out very well! Through the human family, the Creator wanted to express and let us share in the richness and diversity of His love: in the human expressions of matrimonial love and the fruitfulness of the spouses, father and mother, in the children’s filial love, and in the love between brothers, the human family is an icon of the Divine Family and allows us to understand something of God’s supernatural love for us. Father, watch over the Family, protect the spouses, the parents, the elderly and the young; care for the sick, for those who live in poverty and isolation; guard especially the children who often face situations of risk and are abandoned, sometimes even by their parents».
