The family at the Conclave/7   versione testuale
Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, Archbishop of Manila, in an interview for the Pontifical Council for the Family

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle spoke about the situation of the family in the Philippines:  «In the Philippines, as in other cultures but more, the family is really the basic source of our joy. The basic of happiness is not money, is not power, is not prestige, but is the goodness and the welfare of the family. Much pain and sorrow is when the family is in trouble or when the family disintegrates. So, our joy, our soul, our dreams, our hopes are very often connected in a very deep way to the family.

Now, many  Filipinos are working abroad, in many countries of Europe, in many parts of the Hemisfere . If you ask them why they are in a foreign court, they all will say: for the sake of the family. All their sacrifices are made for the family. There are many negative efforts  that seem to affect the family, even if the Filipinos try to keep the family together. One is poverty. We see especially young people growing up without  the basic necessities  of a decent human life. Suddenly, the mass media have good or not good effects. We have many young people who are becoming experts in the use of new technologies, the Internet, the use of social  media. This has an effective in terms of a communication scale and relationship with their parents and each other. In some part of Philippines , violence also has adverse and negative effects on the family.

Place to place, the goals of family life will change. All the institutions, all the schools, all the religious communities , they take as one priority the pastoral care of the family».
