A Vigil of families in Umbria, on August 1st, opened the Celebrations of St. Francis of Assisi, Patron of Italy


 
On October 4th, Pope Francis will be in Assisi to attend the celebration of Italy’s Patron Saint, whose name Bergoglio has adopted as his pontifical name.

The Bishops' Conference of Umbria is promoting some events in preparation for the Franciscan Celebrations. The first of these events was held in Assisi on August 1st, the anniversary of the Festival of Forgiveness: The Regional Commission for the Pastoral Care of the Family and Life organized a Vigil of prayer and reflection with families on the theme: “Il perdono è la tenerezza di Dio” (Forgiveness is God’s tenderness), with a penitential celebration in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli.
 
Msgr. Mario Ceccobelli, Bishop of Gubbio, in an interview for Vatican Radio (attached), explained the meaning of the prayer of the families.
