In the coming days the new Portuguese version of the Pontifical Council for the Family’s website will be available, joining the already available versions in Italian, English, French, and Spanish. In this way our dicastery will be more easily and directly accessible to more than 364 million people, and thus expanding its mission to the service of the greater human family.
The work of the translation will be carried out by volunteers from the Brazilian Religious Community Canção Nova, which was founded in 1978 with a mission of evangelization and pastoral care through social communication (television, radio, internet). This collaboration began during the trip of our the president of the dicastery, Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia, to San Paolo, and the ensuing friendship with the founder of Canção Nova, Rev. Jonas Abib.
“After many years of activity we are very rooted in Brazilian society” – according to Edilma Oliveira of Canção Nova – “Our spirituality is particularly nourished by Salesian thought and by Charismatic Renewal in the Holy Spirit: two intersecting branches producing the special vocation to bring the message of Jesus to the ends of the earth. We are more than 2,000 people and 120 families, working for the formation of youth and adolescents, preparing them for engagement and marriage. In Brazil there are also two prayer groups composed of families and young people committed to the evangelization of other families: an activity that we also carry out in the other places in which we have a strong presence – Portugal, Italy, France, Paraguay, and the Holy Land.”
