Together with the Spouses, Forever
The president of the Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, Msgr. Kleda, gives an invitation to a renewed pastoral care for the family
The principle message of Msgr. Samuel Kleda, Archbishop of Douala and President of the Episcopal Conference of Cameroon, during the X General Assembly of the Central African Churches taking place in the Republic of Congo from 6 to 13 July, can be described as a pastoral care for the family that introduces a yes to marriage, but that above all accompanies the spouses in their path of love and fidelity, “forever.” For Msgr. Kleda there are many problems regarding the family in Central Africa that a renewed pastoral commitment could contribute to solve. For Msgr. Kleda the difficulties encountered in the pastoral care for the family often come from an absence of or weakness in structure, be it in the parish or in the diocese. Thus even if today one cannot say that nothing has been done in this respect, as some parishes offer pastoral care for marriages according to their possibility, Msgr. Kleda would like to propose an updated pastoral care for spouses and the family. This renewed care would go forward according to these criteria: natural family planning, accompanying couples for the first five years of marriage, then the next 10 years of marriage, and then from the 16th year onward; also care for widows, single parents, and those in special situations such as young mothers, divorced and remarried, and separated spouses.
