The criteria of economics and efficiency—characteristic of production— are the factors that increasingly demean what is human and determine the marginalization of the elderly. To this danger Pope John Paul II opposed, during the meeting with the elderly Spaniards in 1982, the right criteria that should never be lost from sight: the humanitarian and moral values.
