Listening is a way of loving
Fourth Sunday of Advent
In today’s readings David, Paul and Mary listened to God’s call and were willing to change their plans and their way of life. Before you were married you wanted to know everything about each other. You listened intently to everything that was said, and you felt loved and cherished as a result. But, with the passage of time, and the pressures of everyday living, the quality of your sharing and especially your listening might have declined. For all of us, there is a constant need to reflect on the quality of our listening, especially to overcome the temptation to butt in. When we listen with our heart and our eyes, as well as our ears, we begin to recognise aspects of our behaviour and our attitudes that we need to change. Listening is a way of loving… and so is willingness to change. Ask yourself this question: when did I last feel listened to by my spouse? And share your answers with each other.
