Deepening the Motu Proprio Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus, by developing its contents, is the aim of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in "Mitis Iudex," a course of pastoral canonical renewal on the new marital nullity procedures, which will be given in Rome from 2 to 19 May.
This reform, desired by Pope Francis and focused on marriage nullity, obviously calls for reflection and in-depth study, especially considering that it requires clear changes in the organizational structure of tribunals as well as in the pastoral care of the faithful in difficulty, care that should be given through the closeness, accompaniment of the persons, and the attentiveness of the ecclesial communion. In consequence, it should be applied responsibly, while bearing in mind, on the one hand, the legal and theological principles and, on the other, the pastoral implications.
This intensive course is conducted by four professors, each of whom will focus on a particular aspect of the topic. The classes will be held at the Pontifical Institute John Paul II on Monday, May 2nd; Thursday and May 5th; and then from Monday, May 16th, to Thursday, May 19th (4:40 pm to 7:00 pm).
