Pope Francis' post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation on the joy of love in the family has just been made public. The document is voluminous because it covers the two preceding Synods. United by joy, even in the title, with Evangelii Gaudium, love in the family indicates the subject and the privileged place for the proclamation of the Gospel in the contemporary world. It echoes the words of St. John Paul II: "The family remains a primary and most important concern of the Church's life and ministry. As the family goes, so goes the Church, and so goes human society as a whole" (Angelus, 5 Oct. 1997).
