Ready for the Synod
The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa at the workshop in Cotonou: issues and proposals for the meeting on the family
The Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA) also took part in the workshop in preparation for the Synod that was held in June in Cotonou, Benin. The Association was represented by the Secretary-General, Fr. Ferdinand Lugonzo, and the Pastoral Coordinator Fr. Febian Pikiti Mulenga. The Conference offered insights concerning the future of family life and concrete proposals for October’s Synod. During the conference, bishops, theologians and lay people listened to the theological presentations and, in small groups, discussed different topics: the diffusion of the teachings on the family in Sacred Scripture and the Church’s Magisterium, marriage according to the natural law, pastoral care of the family evangelization, pastoral care in certain difficult marital situations, unions of persons of the same sex, education of children in irregular marriages, openness of the married couple to life, and the relationship between the family and the person.
